The Governors were pleased to be able to award grants in the 2024-25 year to the value of £57,919.

Applications were received form 149 individuals and organisations across the year for financial support, and 131 successful awards were made. Unfortunately, the Trust was unable to support 18 applications. These were rejected in the most part, due to not fully meeting the Trust’s eligibility criteria.

As is our remit, the majority of applications and awards made were to support families in meeting the costs of school camps organised by the county’s primary and high schools. A total of £30,428 was awarded to 103 pupils, enabling them to take part. Most applications were for the Primary 7 camps, which are important milestones for East Lothian children in helping with transition to High School. S3 at the High Schools also seems to be a key time for school trips and activities weeks, supporting the young people in developing key skills they will use for the future.

The Governors were pleased to be able to award grants worth £8,835 for 16 individuals, of all ages,  pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate education, apprenticeships and vocational trainings, and for pursuing arts and sporting talent.

The Trust values the projects of not-for-profit organisations, and initiatives within schools that help develop education, the arts and sports in the local communities. In the 2024-25 year, the Trust provided funding to 12 local groups; a total of £18,656 for various initiatives. These included activities targeted at supporting young people struggling at school, running breakfast clubs, providing sports equipment, study trips and sessions for young adults with learning disabilities.

The 2025-26 year is equally as busy. Over 120 applications have been received, and over £60,000 has been awarded at the end of December 2025, with the final awards for this financial year to be made in late February 2026./schools-colleges/school-sport-award
